our certified body poets
I am a practicing interdisciplinary artist and art therapist working in a variety of media including: pen and ink, sculpture, ceramics, installation, fibers, and bookmaking. My current body of work focuses on my passions for the environment and the feminine connection of woman to nature; the female body; fat issues (self-esteem, body image, eating disorders); female sexuality; women’s health; and the politics of culture and empowered voice.
As a therapist, my work with clients involves a strengths-based, humanistic approach that seeks to empower and guide the client to their own personal truth. I believe the client is the expert of their own experience and needs merely guidance and support to address their own issues. My style involves a heart-felt presence and warmth, focused on listening to, not only what is said, but what is not being said. The body can sometimes tell the story that words cannot. I find this with art as well and often incorporate art, writing and movement-based experiences to support clients with accessing their own internal wisdom.
My education includes: MA in Clinical Mental Health Counselling with a Specialisation in Art Therapy, Lesley University; MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts, Goddard College. BFA in Illustration, Kendall College of Art and Design. I am licensed as a mental health counsellor (LMHC) in the state of Hawaii and Massachusetts and am registered as an art therapist (ATR) with the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
